I went into this book not really knowing what to expect, and somehow ended up far more invested than I anticipated. Garricks does a really good job of weaving together family, friendship, love, grief and the complicated realities of life in the Niger Delta

What stayed with me most was how human the characters felt. Messy, flawed, sometimes frustrating, but understandable.
