Somewhere along the way I developed an impression that this book was a time travel story. I’m listening and listening, waiting for the point that time travel enters the plot! It doesn’t. There is no time travel. There is no big surprise, no thrills, no twists, no depth. Characters are one-dimensional and predictable. I love WW2 stories, but the descriptions read like encyclopedia entries. May not finish.

Absolutely brilliant

Third time trying to read this book. I fade out every time....

Read two chapters and I was done. Most redundant writing I have encountered since grading college essays.

I lost count of how many times I started this book. This time, I picked up the audio version for my commute. The older I get, the sillier this book gets, or at least the first third of it. The male protagonists’ infantile brutality just feels uncomfortable in this century. Conveniently, the audio download failed and once again, I’m on to other plots.
