This is one of Burroughs lesser known works, and I am at a loss as to why. Yes, it is a melodrama, but there is a clear theme of redemption and overcoming the past. It also highlights the hypocrisy of the do gooders of the world. That a hooker and the town drunk are the heroes may say it all. It is a short, but enjoyable read.
