What I like about backman’s writing is that it is tight , no unnecessary details. Also, I like his use of the Greek chorus —an omnipotent observer that he makes comments as the Greek chorus did to make one think about the actions that just took place. Like the Greek plays, it is unobtrusive

I want to be her editor, grammar, syntax and punctuating errors detract from the book

OMG. is this Dan Brown writing under a pseudonym? The writing is absolutely horrible. Where in god’s name is the editor? For instance:

“Well,” Ginzberg said, pleased that Dominic had asked the question,”
Really? Does the author not realize that he did not have to tell the reader, it could have shown this emotion?

The orderly had a bottomless supply of clever euphemisms for the great leveller. Turned up her toes” do not know if I will finish. Here the author has the protagonist using an euphemism when demeaning someone who uses them.

I did not finish this book. I do not care for fishing, and the whole story was annoying. I thought when he moved away from his crazy parents thing would get more interesting, but nope. I just gave up

So, I started this book in February, read 15 pages and went on to greener pastures. I wasn’t enthralled.

I picked the book up again about a week ago, and it grabbed me. It is a light book, well written, and just fun. I would consider this a beach read, or a winter doldrums book, when one needs lots of sunshine.

I love a book that reads like poetry. I have read such awkward books lately, that falling into the cadence of this book is lurejoy. I hope it keeps up.
