"Alcohol, above all else, is immediate and temporary. It helps you feel better until it doesn't. It feels innocent and fun until it's not. And it's easier and faster than just about any other solution available."

My first Jenny Lawson book... I know. How is that possible as a library worker? Beats me but here we are. I get that her dry wit and wacky sense of humor appeal to people. I'm not sure if I'm one of those people. The retelling of her experience trolling a scammer was weird to me. On the other hand, her experiences with memory loss and descriptions of depression definitely resonate. I'll keep reading...

It’s super slow right now and I’m struggling to stay interested. I’ve heard such good things about it that I’d like to finish it but it seems pretty long and uneventful.

Lots of science from the jump, discussing the anatomy of the brain and how different parts control various functions and facets of your personality. A few well placed anecdotes are keeping it balanced

So far, so good. Some of these sections seem a little unnecessary like the email section, the social media section felt like one big ad for multiple apps but those things aside, I’m really digging this one. Lots of info, helpful bits, and insight into the science of distraction.

Okay so she lost me with the God talk and Knowing. I didn’t realize that Christianity is part of her shtick. I don’t begrudge anyone’s faith but I guess I’m more interested in learning how to listen to one’s own inner voice and not necessarily attributing that voice to a higher power.

I didn’t want to believe the hype but this... is insane. I’m not sure if it’s the timing or a testament to my mental state or what but I’ve cried 3 times reading and I’m less than halfway through this. Glennon Doyle’s writing is exceptional, cutting to the quick in such short essays. I cannot wait to finish so that I can devour all of her work.

Not very far into it but not feeling the interview style intro. The format itself is fine but the MC seems to be revealing personal details to the interviewer and it’s strange and kind of unbelievable because people don’t tend to reveal the state of their personal relationships to complete strangers unsolicited in real life.

Not bad so far, but I feel like I'm missing something. We didn't get to experience her father's death or get a real sense of the effort it took to become a Dreamwalker. The story glances over these things and feels like it's starts in the middle.

I just had to look up what a bris was and I can't believe this is a thing that happens and other people are invited to witness
