Men's adventure tales -- a lost genre.

Burning a child for revenge is one of the sickest things I have ever read in a work of fiction. Perhaps it was the way the antagonist found pleasure in this act that haunts me. Perhaps it is because I have a small child at home. Either way, if this was not a work of fiction, I would personally make it a goal in my life to hunt this monster down and do unimaginable things to him in the name of justice.

Back at it...but this novel is soooooo depressing.

A whimsical tale in the grand tradition of 1001 Nights, but with Rabelaisian humor thrown into the mix. A perfect way to welcome my summer reading!

Goofy and silly stories that are meant to send chills down the spine...still waiting. To be honest, I think these are a bit dated to arouse any fear factor.

yep, Courtenay is South Africa's version of Steinbeck.

Courtenay's epic reminds me of Steinbeck's epic EAST OF EDEN. I think I am going to savor this over the course of two or three months.

Roth's negative perspective about dying tells me one thing: the man is not happy with how he has lived his life.

I am trying to read more Roth. Why? I haven't the foggiest clue.

I am a sucker for police drama...we'll see if this blast from the past still has what it takes.

Just finished watching the film of this story with my wife...I fear I have spoiled some parts of the book. That's what I get for renting movies on Movie Monday for 99 cents.

Adding Tom Clancy's name to a book doesn't mean that the book is going to be any good. All that does is ensures a good number of copies are going to be sold.

The first 80 pages are slow moving...intermittent action but not enough for a book about SEALS. Here's to hoping the next 80 pages change the pace.

Also, the humanizing of the SEALS is a great strategy, but we all know these men are trained killers.

I need to start over.
