Started off a little dry , but utterly fascinated by this glimpse into Hepworths life.
Loved the comment about her being stand offish as she wouldn't entertain people through the day as she was working... no one would interupt a man! I stand with her as my Studio is based at home ans I do not permit interuptions now either! ( after people expecting me to be " on call " , I have taken on a very male attitude ).

I had marked this as reading a couple of day before NY but did not start and removed it as my OCD liked the 30 figure for the year. About to jump in Now.
Happy New Year to anyone who reads this 🥳

What could be better after a morning working in the garden than settling down outside with a Mug of Tea and a Book I've yearned for since first heard of it?
The most soothing activity in the world is to walk by yourself by the edge of the Sea...
The waves will always lift the darkness away and leave you rejuvinated.

DJ is reading The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, #2)
Definately enjoyed it - although possibly not quite so gripping as The Golden Compass. Thos can happen in a trilogy so looking forward to moving onto THE AMBER SPYGLASS.
And then THE BOOK OF DUST.

DJ is reading Into the Water
I was grippec by all the different voices in this novel - I do however, know that many felt there were to many perspectives...
Bring it on, I say!
There was one particular line of theme that I would have loved to have seen carried forward and I was lucky enough to say this in person to the Author at an event.

DJ is reading The Fire Child
There were parts I really liked and bits I thought a bit " meh ". I had no problem with the similarities to REBECCA by Daphne Du Maurier but felt the author should really have run with this concept fully rather than dwindling it out like the embers of Manderly in tbe morning light.
A good idea but perhaps a little more plotting before commencing writing.
Although these books do stay in your brain.

DJ is reading The Girl on the Train
I really enjoyed this book and I'm not a " thriller " reader per se. Although I feel this is more a pyschological crime novel. I hated that they cadt Emily Blunt ( superb as Rachel ) but still transfered filming to set in America. Disappointing and lost some of the particularly British nuancing.

DJ is reading The Child in Time
I read this sooner than anticipated to ease my mind as to the sustained quality of Ian McEwans work after watching the particularly badly adapted TV version. Relieved to say my faith was restored and I shall NOT be watching the adaptation og ON CHESIL BEACH - which is the most heartachingly beautifully blunt books I have ever read.

Adored the Paris segment - don't eat while reading though. And the London section whilst rushed was a great invocation of the period.

Whilst I enjoyed this it didn't stand up well against the sparcity and beauty of Margaret Atwoods words in THE HANDMAID'S TALE...
It did make an interesting point of comparision however.

DJ is reading The Sense of an Ending
I wasn't sure of the first few pages but then the concept just rang like a Christmas Bell in my head. I absolutely love the truth in this book regarding memory and the errors we create for ourselves.

Looking forward to rereading at a future point along with a couple of similarly theme veined books.

DJ is reading Nutshell
Read in a morning. Loved the concept of the viewpoint from the Foetus - something I have had many discussions on. Wish Mr McEwan was the type to write sequels as I'd like to know what hapoens in about 18 years time.
Pithy and to the point with his usual incredible detailing on the state of the world as a reference point.
Will update these comments after a second less speedy reading.

I loved this book! Big Thank You to Rebecca Raisin for the recommendation.
The twists and turns kept me constantly guessing - almost had my head spinning. I found this to be quite a terrifying book. Glad I didn't read it a couple of years ago...
Cannot wait for her next book. If you like a thriller, I highly recommend you read this.
There are a lot of sexual references in case of a sensitive nature.
