A dull collection of arguments. When the author actually and rarely intrudes to state an opinion, it stands out and sometimes works against him, such as saying Federal powers to regulate elections might seem trivial. This reads like those horrible days preceding votes, when each legislator states his or her precise reasoning for the record.

I’ve finished this book, but want to keep it open till I learn how to lobby to change a book description: I didn’t read this one until after I finished the book, and I’m very glad to have missed it. This book description contains a spoiler on one matter that I was very happy to not know till Steinbeck told me.

Smith describing how urban populations prosper at the expense of rural populations is startling and profound. The rural worker is generally more versatile, varied and independent, while urban work is more specialized, consistent and collaborative. The collaborative corporations, including trade guilds, raise the profits of the city at the expense of the country. This rings true to the present moment.

Audio book from the library for the car - not driving much these days, but enough to start getting interested.
