Almost done. But everything is in disarray. I don't know how the author will finish all the threads by the end.

This series is so good. I wish I had read it back when I was younger. I'm on the last book now. Fingers crossed for a good ending!

Oooh I recognized a name from the author's Highroad series, and another character, who is a friend of the name I recognize, has characteristics that remind me of another character from Highroad. But it seems the Jaran novels take place before the Highroad ones, which means I might get to witness certain events mentioned in Highroad. I keep waiting, and waiting...

I read the first book by itself so now I'm on the 2nd book. Buying them in this bundle was cheaper than buyer the rest of the books by themselves.

I wish I had read this book back when I was 25. I would have loved it. Now I'm like, is this sci-fi? fantasy? romance?. It's not bad, the writing is decent, but the plot just plods along at the pace of the horses in the book. There's some mystery with the aliens but I'd like more info now. Plus, the main character girl adapts way too quickly to rural life, I think.

I'm able to understand more of what's going on kind of in sub-text or something like that than when I read it when I was younger (probably in late 20s). Back then I was looking for more action and this story is more about morality and the consequences of a project with good intention that ends up killing a crap-zillion people.

What I love about this book and Reed's GreatShip series is the mind-boggling idea of people living for a million years because they have nanos or whatever in their bodies that self-heal when they get hurt and also keep them young.

I just finished a book and was looking for something new to read but was like "No" and "meh", scroll down the list, scroll, scroll...MURDERBOT! Yes, just what I need when I'm feeling down and depressed. So I'm reading the first four books (what do you call a 4 book trilogy?) again for the umpteenth time. I totally relate to Murderbot. I too have trouble talking to humans and would rather stay home and watch media.

Whoa. The author suddenly learned how to write 3rd person from just one person's POV instead of anybody's. A nice change from the writing style of the first two books.

this book is easier to read than the first because I already know the major characters and the setting. But what frustrates me is when something happens with Hawk and Lily doesn't ask him why he feels the need to do something. I know why. The author wants to string us along until later in the series for some big reveal. But if you loved someone and they acted weird, even criminal, wouldn't you ask them why?

Despite the lackluster beginning this book gets good. Ooo, I should use that sentence in my review, it sounds nice.

Hmm...I think there's a problem here. The author goes out of his way to state how indestrucable the Basic ships are (and what a blah name 'basic', couldn't he have come up with something interesting sounding?) but then in the battle...well, no spoilers but let's just say not every ship that went out to battle came back. So how did the ships get damaged? He said the only thing that made any mark was a bronze chisel.

The other day I was flipping through the pages of new books available on NetGalley, passing books I'm not interested in, passing others by authors I've never heard of until I came to a screeching halt when I recognized the name "Garth Nix". Years and years ago I read Sabriel and sequels and loved them. So I decided to give this new book of his a try. At least I know he can write well and that's important to me.

I just finished a book by my fave author but before I could get back to the other book I was in the middle of this Pendergast book was on sale on Amazon and I had to buy it (even though I know my library has it and I could have read it for free) and read it immediately. I mean it's Pendergast, of course I have to read it ASAP.

It's better now. Now that I understand what's going on, what he's setting up. Telling us about the past, then the now, then the past again, etc.

One thing irks me about Goodreads and Kindle: sometimes they don't show when I highlight something that I want to share. It says here "1 note & 1 highlight" but when I click on that it only shows one thing, not two. Why?!

I don't remember the author using so many big words in the other "Childrem of Time" books. But it's been a while since I've read them so maybe that's his normal style for this series? I dunno but it's hard to read when I have to look up words all the time. And I have a 4-year college degree! I know some big words but I guess not all these sciency big words.

Perfect timing! I just finished a book and this one came out.

However, I started reading it expecting the usual Tchaikovsky goodness and I'm bored, my mind wanders and I have to re-read sections. Yikes, what happened?

Tucker Coe is a pseudonym for Donald E. Westlake, famous for his hilarious Dortmunder series. But I really like these Mitchell Tobin mysteries too. The one where he had to go undercover in a sort of halfway house for mental patients was great. Westlake is just a good writer. He chooses his words carefully so that you don't even realize how good he is. It's like seeing Olympic ice skaters.

I remember when this first was published in the US. I didn't know it was French. My dad saw the title and said something derogatory and I tried to defend the book, it got great reviews, blah blah blah but all he could see was the title.

Okay I've finished the book I interrupted this one for, and then the new one by my favorite author that just came out, and another favorite author had a new book that I had to read immediately. So now I'm ready to continue this book but I only have vague memories of what I read so I went back to the beginning and started over.

Wow this author really loves to mess up his characters' lives. He really wrote them in a bad situation like really bad. Every time something like this happens I think "What will he think up next?" and "Can he even top this?!" But he comes up with some doozies, I tell ya.

Oh man this is bad timing. I'm in the middle of a book and this just came out. I have an ARC waiting for me to read and review. But what can I say? I love Tchaikovsky (not personally, just his writing) and this series is always very interesting, a different place in every book, usually a couple carry-over characters from previous books. Good stuff. Sigh. I need to read faster!
