Elizabeth Jane Howard never disappoints. Yes, she writes about rather posh and well to do folks, but that takes nothing away from the humanity and empathy in her work. As usual, there is a great cast of interesting characters and some really sharp observations. Loved it.

I have to admit defeat on this one. I read My Brilliant Friend and mostly enjoyed it. But this second of the Neopolitan novels is hard going. I don't know if something is lost in the translation, but to me it reads as a constant stream of episodic telling, and there isn't much to tell. Disappointing, as I love the idea of these novels. But they are not for me.

Enjoying dipping into Stories for Homes, of course I've read the stories by people I know first! Very impressed by the standard of writing so far.
