It has taken my days to get this far because my attention wanders frequently. The slog is real.

Undying Stars (Darkstar Mercenaries, #6)
I'm struggling not to dnf this one. I love the Kordolians but this book reads almost like a different author. It's choppy, repetitive, missing the subtle humor and warmth, and halfway through I am SO over the kid.
I'm taking a break and will come back to this book later. Maybe.

Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad #1)
It has been a while since I reread the whole series. Now if I could just find Polgara the Sorceress and Belgareth the Sorcerer in ebook, I would be happiest.

Black Coral (Underwater Investigation Unit, #2)
I'm trying to stick with this one long enough to at least say I gave it a fair chance. I have one main problem: the constant switching between a first person narrative style to an expository style. Every few paragraphs I get yanked out of the action of the story to become the reader whom the text is addressing. It makes for non-existant pacing and awkward observation vs. participation.

I'm loving the fact that he shifts into a flock of 77 ravens rather than a single bird.

Based on my reading preferences, GR recommends I might like an Elmo Sesame Street book. Really? Was it the dragon shifter sex? The Daddy/little BDSM? The serial killer stalking a psychic and her sheriff lover?
That algorithm needs a little tweaking, methinks.

Cooking Up Romance (The Taylor Triplets #1)
I'm giving up on this one. Th h is at least 30 but seems unable to think about anything except repeating how attractive the h is. When he's around, she forgets what she was doing, loses her train of thought, etc. etc. It has long passed the point of ridiculous and unprofessional. She's just immature and childish. Throw in a family secret trope I hate and constantly changing viewpoint, and I'm done.

An Earl for the Shy Widow (The Widows of Westram, 2)
So far there is not a shy or kind thing about this h. She is argumentative, reactionary, manipulative, and forward to the point of being encroaching and rude. Just once, I'd like to find a Harlequin book that actually knows what "shy" means.

The Widow's Protector (Conard County: The Next Generation #12)
The beginning is too unbelievable. I have to remind myself this is a Harlequin romance, because otherwise I'm the girl at the slasher movie screaming "Don't let him in, you stupid b**ch. It's your fault if you die!" I want to like this book. Honestly, I do. But this is how everybody in the movie dies a bloody death until nobody's left but the baby who gets adopted by a state social worker.

No Proper Lady (Englefield, #1)
The author had a good idea but came at it from entirely the wrong angle. If the focus had been the magic and fighting demons, this could have been a great book. Instead, so far it has largely been a history lesson in behavioral expectations of society at the time. Why include time travel and magic if they're such a minor part of the story?

Beckman: Lord of Sins (Lonely Lords, #4)
I love Grace Burrowes, and several of her books are rereads for me. This is my first time reading this title, and I'm not feeling it. The pacing is incredibly slow, it is taking forever for any sort of plot to develop, and the chemistry is lackluster at best. I'm putting this one aside for now because I haven't found any part of it interesting enough to make me care about the finish.

Dear GR Algorithms, I would dearly love to know what is my list of books read over the last couple of years that would make you calculate I'm interested in a YA book about a 14-year-old witch. Was it my BDSM shelf? The m/m/f titles? Maybe the vampire erotica?

A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River #4)
So far, I really do not this h. She claims she is stubborn, but she comes across as incredibly self-centered and selfish. Unless she gets a personality transplant soon, I don't have high hopes for this one.
