I need someone to tell me now if Buddy, the family dog, dies because I can’t enjoy this without knowing. Help.

This is the first book I’ve read where one of narrators (there’s three so far) is a non-human character (a panther.) Weird as hell but I don’t hate it.

There’s a dog death in the first pages, it’s not as bad as it could be as the dog is introduced as we’re finding out how it died (so you don’t get attached, etc) but still, I hate seeing this in books. You’ve been warned!

I’m only on chapter two but man, Camryn Garrett makes you fall in love with her characters super early. I’m already completely invested in Josie and her family’s lives, and can’t wait to see where the story takes me.

Maaaan. I'm literally three pages in but I had to go see what other books Leah Johnson has written so I can buy those too. It opens with a James Baldwin quote and a Beyoncé joke!?! I'm in love.

I had to put the book down and make a note that there is a character that the author uses the word “doughy” to describe pretty much EVERY SCENE he’s in and it’s driving me up the fucking wall.

I can tell already this is a book I'm going to not be able to put down.

I LOVE this book, omg. I have SO many friends who needed this book while we were growing up, going to youth group every Wednesday and church camp every summer. Can't wait to dive in deeper.

Started reading this around 8:30 this morning and have not been able to put it down! Might be the first book in a long time I read in one go. It's so, so good.

Oh boy. The only poet's corner member who is not skinny exclusively writes poems not only ABOUT fast food, but ON fast food wrappers. Come ON. Seriously? This is almost comically offensive. A horribly unoriginal characterization. Sigh. This is why sensitivity readers are helpful.

I am definitely intrigued and enjoying this so far, but dear God if I hear the words "extra small" and "fat" in the same sentence one more time I might throw my Kindle across the room. I hope the author spacing out the narrators humble braggy weight references out a bit more as the story goes on.
