This makes me want to go do a deep dive on Homeric writing and Ancient Greek mythology and how to analyze historical texts from a critical and intentional perspective.
The audiobook is hard to follow along with. I feel this may be one of those novels that read better on paper rather than audiobook.

There’s a lot of anecdotes that don’t fit into the larger themes of the book, and Sarah gets a little side tracked, but I feel like I’m watching a train wreck happening and can’t look away while reading about Facebook being built 🫩

This book is as heavy as a brick, and just as thick, too. Regret bringing this in my carry on luggage but don’t regret reading it so far 😗✌🏼

I need to take a break from books that can double as a brick especially when I’m tired

When Barnes & Noble is the one making the bold moves and Strand is out here embarrassing itself… well, welcome to the weirdest literary timeline. So far I’m coming away with a massive headache and unease looking at all my Strand merch, stickers, and bookmarks. Yikes.

“When you sell a man a book, you don’t sell him just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue—you sell him a whole new life.” - Roger Mifflin.

This is so incredibly fascinating to recognize names of publishing houses, but read about the people behind those mega-names today. For all, it's an unyielding love of literature and books that drove them and their publishing houses to bring to the world overlooked gems.

When ur wife in the 1800’s tells u “Compromises based on the idea that the preservation of the Union is more important than the Liberty of nearly 4,000,000 human beings cannot be right—the alternation of the Constitution to perpetuate slavery – giving half of the Frontier of a free country to the curse of Slavery – these compromises cannot be approved by God or supported by good men.” yeah ur done son

Finley’s writing is choppy, faltering, and verbose. I know this is a book about a different medium of art but part of art is also describing it in a way that conveys thoughts and ideas effectively and so far I see nothing of the sort. The linguist in me is appalled, and we only just began the book. 😒
