I may never finish this. The writing is excellent, but I can't bring myself to restart it. Perhaps, eventually.

Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology

Amber Foxx is 20% done with Murder Must Advertise (Lord Peter Wimsey, #10)
Will I finish this? So far, it's not exactly a page-turner. The style is clever and witty, but the omniscient POV is so detached, I don't have a feel for any of the characters as real, whole people. They are observed from the outside rather than experienced from the inside. Perhaps it gets better. Perhaps I'll hang in there to find out.

Excellent writers. Outstanding skill and storytelling. But I need break from this genre. Horror has gore and violence, that's the nature of it. These are not stories to read back to back, not for me, anyway. I'll resume one story at a time later.

Amber Foxx is finished with Among the Hidden (Shadow Children, #1)
Wrong book by same title. Never read this. Not interested in it, either.

Alas, I can't get through this. The author felt it was important to write Jamaican speech phonetically, and it's such a struggle and distraction for me as a reader, I'm surrendering the effort.

I've actually finished, but I'm still looking over my notes for a review. I recommend this book, though. Definitely worth reading.

Someone should have been reading this aloud in the background during the Republican convention. Just for a touch of realism.

Educational, annoying, sleep-inducing ... no national security secrets so far.

It's a slog, for sure, and I disagree with Bolton's politics often, but I'm still learning a lot. One often can learn from people one disagrees with. His ego takes up a lot of space, but that's to be expected. Still worth reading so afr.

My Nook says this book is over 800 pages. Goodreads says 704. I don't think I'm really 81% finished.

And it's only 1948. Many chapters to go. As I get into the more familiar history, I'm slowing down. Still a worthwhile read. And I spend more time writing than reading since it's not so much a page-turner.

Fascinating book, but it's so long I feel as if I need to read something else at the same time so I can finish something. Which is not logical.

Amber Foxx is starting Scientific Paranormal Investigation: How to Solve Unexplained Mysteries
This is research for the seventh Mae Martin mystery. She's going to have a professor who teaches Logic and Skepticism who is also an investigator and the advisor to the student Paranormal Activities Club. (I was once asked to the advisor to such a student group, but they never got going.) Radford's title is amusingly redundant. After all, are there "explained mysteries?"
