I was waiting to be in the right mental state to dive in. As expected, it's great, unputdownable stuff. Abercrombie is a genius. Simple as.

Conscription is slavery.
War is mass murder.

- Murray N. Rothbard

This is (somehow) the first book I have ever read on the Vietnam War. What an unnecessary catastrophe.

This is the first book I've read on the Vietnam War so I am learning much about this conflict from scratch. Ward's well-written and intimate history is thought-provoking and emotionally demanding.

Joshua is on page 250 of 572 of Red Mars (Mars Trilogy, #1)
Finished the first half before deciding to take a little break from this one. While the science is interesting, the meandering plot and vacant characters make this one kind of a slog. :/ Back to it and hoping to finish before end of year.

Murphy has a gift for simplifying complex theories. This book feels like a primer for Austrian economics and it's great for busy people with little economic background.

A compelling account on the Vietnam war and the people behind it. I am enjoying the sidebar essays on various issues such as whether JFK would have invaded NV were he not assassinated on the cusp of the conflict. Great so far.

Joshua is on page 150 of 310 of Antitrust and Monopoly: Anatomy of a Policy Failure (Independent Studies in Political Economy)
Started out reading The Myths of Antitrust but discovered that Antitrust and Monopoly is an expanded/updated version of that book. So far, this book is a remarkable breakdown of the classic antitrust cases. Armentano had a gift for sifting through myth and legend to uncover the truth behind the story of antitrust.

Re-reading for the third time. Hayek's enduring wisdom and remarkable accessibility bring me back year after year. Reading the preface to the definitive edition also gives me a renewed appreciation for Hayek's courage in trying to pump the breaks on state centralization.

It is remarkable how many details you pick up on during a second or third reading that you missed in the first reading.

I am new to the fantasy genre, and I have to say that I am impressed so far. Abercrombie appears to be a master at character building (special mention should be given to Inquisitor Glokta).
