Ummm... has anyone told Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers it's a mystery? Also Vera Wong is clearly 90 years old, not 60-something.

Wishing I read some of the negative reviews here before I started this book, because I am agreeing much with them. So far Gibson is highly reductive, black and white, coins unnecessary terms and categories, and fails to cite any research or theories. This is very blah book.

I'm ready for stuff to start happening.

At some point, I started thinking of this series as Erdrich's version of the MCU and how it's all a psychosexual soap opera with superpowers. Of course, Nanapush's superpower is talk, Agnes's is piano-playing, Lulu's is seduction. What's Leopolda's power though?

Becky is a man's woman because she's a clever, rapacious, and a flirt. Amelia is a man's woman because she's naive, helpless, and a devoted mother. Both are unpopular with women. I have no idea what point Thackeray is trying to make here (don't think he does either), but can I just say yay for having female friends?

George really [spoilers]kicked it[/spoilers] as soon as Amelia gained a semblance of a spine, huh. I'm pretty sure that's emblematic of something or other, but I can't be dashed enough about either of them to care.

Dobbin also remains the creepy Nice Guy.
