Strange and fascinating story, with a memorable cast of characters. Even Mark Twain has shown up to take a look at the "find".

I continue to be astonished at how prescient Octavia Butler was 20 years ago on so many matters that affect us deeply today, including Twitter and Instagram.

This dystopian novel, set in the very near future, is as unsettling as they come -- all too real, given current headlines. I am truly puzzled, though, as to how in 50+ years of avid science fiction reading, I have managed to miss Octavia Butler. It is an omission I am eager to make up for.

Clear, well documented and absolutely brutal. I thought I was reasonably well informed, but I am learning a great deal that is truly disturbing. So disturbing that I can read only so much before I have to look away. And then I think about all the people who can't look away because this *is* their life.
