This is totally nonsensical. Winnie keeps wishing for “a normal family” when it’s painfully obvious that ship sailed at the moment of “the incident”. It’s not even that she’s unsympathetic or unreliable, it’s just there’s no reason to take her remotely seriously. Her distorted perspective would work so much better if there were also chapters showing Nigel’s or Sam’s perspectives.

Ok, well the illness is finally explained, though it’s inexplicable why it would have needed so much foreshadowing… but the ageism is still going strong… “she was as old as she was slow”? Ok got it👍

If I keep reading, will the plot twist be that Juno has severe osteoarthritis? Why is she constantly thinking about how brittle her bones are, how she’s afraid of falling and breaking a hip? And what is with her computer skills? she looks at the blank monitor, she thinks about it, she nudges the mouse, and then when the screen lights up she’s like “aww yeah, I KNEW it would do that, not bad for an old lady!”
