I don't understand how any author can make this era boring, but Robert W. Merry has managed to do so.

The previous book ended with LBJ's election to the Senate in 1948, so of course, this being Caro, volume 3 pauses briefly to provide a history of the Senate over the previous century. Johnson finally makes an appearance on page 108.
