I am CURRENTLY READING an amazing book by DAVID F. MARTIN, curator of the Cascadia Art Museum, titled GEORGE TSUTAKAWA: EARLY WORKS ON PAPER, published this year by the University of Washington Press to accompany the current exhibit featuring Tsutakawa's work.

Goodreads won't allow me to officially add this book to my shelves because it's not in Amazon's database (ie Amazon doesn't get a cut of the fucking profits).

A major problem w/this book is that the author is not himself a native English speaker, leading to some really convoluted English sentences. (Nor did he have a good editor who could've helped clean up and clarify the writing.) There's a common warning that, even if you already know Modern Irish, learning Old Irish is like learning a completely new language. I didn't realize that new language would have to be German.

I expected Old Irish to be challenging -- I was NOT anticipating the ENGLISH in this book to be vague, convoluted and sometimes downright nonsensical. I highly recommend being married to a (smart, sexy) linguist who can provide clearer explanations when you interrupt him in the middle of work to rant about piss-poor pedagogy. Barring that, de Vries' _Student's Companion to Old Irish Grammar_ is an absolute necessity.

Thank goodness this is an audio book and I can go at double-speed... If I had to read about these WASPs disappointing lives at a normal pace I think I would’ve murdered the lot of them myself

So far... a lot of dull gossip and skinny rich women wishing they were skinnier and richer while the men drink and objectify them.... hoping somebody gets murdered soon

Only on page 15 and already this book is ten times better than the one I just finished (despite my usual disagreements with some aspects of Morgan’s reconstructionist approach—at least she cites her sources and summarizes them accurately!)

So far, this book is weirdly uneven. Some chapters are fine—interesting, informative, if not groundbreaking— but I just started the chapter on Brigid as a fire goddess and some paragraphs border on the grammatically nonsensical. Could have used another round with a good editor, at the very least.
