I wasn't impressed with the writing but I'm sure it's because I read a translation since I don't speak french. No way am I demoting Camus. I am nobody and he's Camus! I believe it's best to read books in the language they were written.
What did impress me is our inability (or incompetence) to learn from our past experiences.

They said "people who don't study history are condemned to repeat the same mistakes". Depends on what one considers a mistake.

It's always a pleasure to immerse myself in a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book. This one is dark, bleak but it does have the writer's distinctive humour hidden in the most unlikely scenes.

Promising beginning...

The dialogue in this book is far better than in the others of The Guild Codex. Kit's internal dialogue particularly is the best. His references to pop culture are little gems.

No Zylas, you're not perfect. Yet.

Zak keeps sacrificing and people should give him some credit, cut him some slack and have his back.

It's all coming together.
Even when all the characters fall one after the other. Will the unlikely hero pull it through? Powerful druid, good alchemist, mediocre sorcerer. What kind of demon summoner will he be?

I honestly like Zak. His complicated relationship with Lalakai makes him even more appealing. He's definitely not a dickhead and being a killer is not necessarily a bad thing.
However, Ezra is growing on me too. Not that there's competition between the two. Tory has made her choice.

Parents know how to push our buttons as they are the ones who've installed them.

Women like good guys but they fall for dickheads. That's a universal truth. Aaron had zero chances when compared to Zak.
