I gotta take care of myself. This one's a little too dark for me to finish right now.

I want to like this, but I'm skeptical... I love the prose and as good sapphic enemies-to-lovers but I'm not invested in this world or the time war. And I love a book that eschews traditional narratives, but this format is so predictable; each chapter is a futuristic technobabble and then there's a letter that's like: "Haha, I gotcha!" Beautiful words, but none of them strike my heart. I'll keep trying.

The prologue already has me tearing up...

The beginning of the third act was so action heavy and fast paced and I couldn't put it down! But I'm kind of snoozing now ... just waiting ... for the government to get their act in gear... (Just like real life, I guess...)

I fucking love Griffith and if anything happens to this man I'm gonna lose it!!!!!

Not a fan of Bishop's adversarial relationship with Colin. Do you like him or not??? Also not a fan of the portrayal of the Norse witch's magic and Bishop's reaction to it - like, I get it, I'd probably be grossed out too, but sheesh. I feel like this scene is trying to say something ... Maybe I'm ascribing meaning where there is meant to be none, but its an off-putting scene, and NOT because of the gore.

AHHHHHH don't you hate when you're trying to be F R I E N D S with a dude and they get all weird and try to hit on you???? AND THEN MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU LED THEM ON??? *tim robinson voice* has this ever happened to you???

I am so thankful to The Thick and the Lean for pulling me out of a seasons-long book slump, and reminding me why I love to read. I've never read a book that tackles the complicated emotions we have, especially as women, with eating. The love of it, the pleasure - how that pleasure, and pleasure of all kinds, for women, is weaponized. So much to say about this! (No room to write it - a meaty (lol) review WILL come!)

This book's prose is quite beautiful - it's pleasant and lovely, but ultimately, incredibly predictable, and, I daresay, another reason why I've been in a book slump for so long. One day I'll be in the mood for some pretty prose in a wonderfully lush, beautiful world, but I have to drop it or I'll never read again!!
