So, this was an upsetting book to start reading today.

The day after I picked this up from the library, I read this piece by the author, on bi invisibility: https://www.them.us/story/this-doesnt... It's lovely and sad but proud and makes me even more excited to read her work now!

Was just reading this at the bar and actually tearing up a little at the female friendship and happy solitude parts. (My one big to-do item for the weekend is to work on writing my wedding ceremony/vows, so this book is making me extra grateful that I get to do this at a nice late age and on my own terms, unlike VERY RECENT generations of women.)

Dang, already finding so many moments where I want to pump my fist in the air and go YEAH! I also love reading a feminist book whose author takes care to specify "white middle class women" instead of just saying "women" when that's who she's talking about.

The end of my 2016 reread. I don't want it to be over, I don't wanna see [characters] die, I really don't wanna read the epilogue.

This is already fascinating! It's a little mind blowing how much Darwin's Victorian upbringing and the absence of women in mainstream science have shaped how we think animal mating & reproduction happen, and how very recently that's begun to change.

The first chapter advises you not to jump in and think about it all at once and that is good advice but it's haaaard! There are more pages!

I had to put Ancillary Justice down because I was too sick for compared worldbuilding, and Scott took it from me! Sci-fi stealing sneak. So I decided to find the silliest lightest book on my shelf & read that instead.

Scott was right, I couldn't stop at the first one. Wait, this is really 752 pages long?

I put this on library hold back in August. I hope it's as awesome as the long line of library patrons ahead of me would imply.

Haven't read this in ~10 yrs. Curious how it holds up.
