Well before the film I read this book for the first time. David Brin was an author I sought out. I re-read this back in the day, and listened to it now out of curiosity. There is still something about this book that elevates it above the droll storyline of the film (which I didn’t hate either). But this narrator is not great and some of the narrative is dated.
