Downgraded from not enjoying to not liking....

There is a lot here so far that is not about Madam CJ Walker's life. I had to go back and read the blub and title. I guess the "and times" part of the title covers all the extra. Not really enjoying this book, but I will continue...

I am struggling with this and would not finish if it was a novel. But story collections are usually salvageable, so I will continue.

I thought I would finish this easily today. But the further I read the less I like this book...

This book is just weird AF, yet I am still reading...

Hmmm. It's January 4th. Too early to say this is one of my top reads of the year?

What a beautiful, sweeping first chapter....

That was the stupidest chapter of them all. I have to finish this book tonight or I may never pick it up again, except to drop it in someone's little free library.

I started this book a week ago and am thinking a few poems a day may be the way to go with poetry - reading it as a complement to my current read instead of reading it like I'd read a novel.

She is not wasting a single paragraph...

I'm not sure if it's because I've missed reading so much or if it's because I adore Michelle so much, but the time I'm spending with this read are the most pleasant and fulfilling stretches of downtime in recent memory.

Thirty pages left but this should've ended 60 pages ago. Started to feel contrived around pg 340 and hasn't quite recovered...

Ok. I'm feeling like it was the right decision to trust the reviews and keep reading. Because when they got to that cabin that would've been the day I left that man, and that would've been the end of the story.

Wow. A sadness always comes over me when I read about black people having their land stolen. Same has happened in my family.
