This is a fun read so far, but I can't help that I've been totally distracted by the nonsensical passage I just read; a flight path that takes the characters from Houston, over Big Bend National Park (with a "detour" to the Grand Canyon) and then on to Montana, presumably without stopping to refuel.

I found the first few books in this series pretty mindlessly easy to get through -- but got stuck in the middle here. Sort of a slog. Not sure if it's worth finishing.

Ugh. I picked this up on audible. Annoying so far, but that's more because I'm resistant to the thesis. (And can't help but read this in the context of hustle-culture, life-coach-ification, and the naivite that I stereotype white men with.)

The beginning reads like an overly earnest college admissions essay from a dude-athlete.

That said, I'll stick with it and hope he turns a corner. I may not be the audience.

Holy Chekhov's dolphin-labor-disputes, I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

Been a rough week, but I (literally) rolled on the floor laughing--laughed away loads of existential dread in the first few chapters.

Loving these "cat saves the dude" inverted tropes.

Brain dump before I read and my thoughts inevitably shift. 1) I love Simon Winchester.

2) I start reading this with some trepidation about what his thesis may be. I lean towards utopian-esque thinking with technology , and therefore get annoyed by "computers/the internet/[insert whatever technology] is ruining our brains/humanity/morals, etc." Curious about where he goes here. If that idea, or more nuanced.

Enjoying so far -- but geez this book makes me really glad I wasn't a British sailor in the 18th century.
