I love these stories. Each one is a carnival fun house, in which you have no idea where the writer is taking you. If you're a reader who actually does know where these stories are going and how they're bound to turn out, I hope it didn't spoil your ride.

It's interesting, through the process of reading, to catch glimpses of how your mind works. I'm interested in music and its history, in this case jazz, and I've come to appreciate "Kind Of Blue" by Miles and material like "A Love Supreme" and "Giant Steps" by Coltrane; Bill Evans' "Peace Piece", too, for example. But wrapping myself around or burrowing into be-bop was something else. Now I enjoy it. Why. How.

As someone who grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana, the references to the Purdue area are a hoot. The author is a poet, and lord how this shines through in his prose and his ideas.

It's still a slog for the non-math inclined, but an amusing slog.
