Still hanging in with this. It is monster sized but the vulnerability of David Foster Wallace and his keen apperception of others is dizzying. Competitive sports, addiction/recovery, and movies become the lens through which he lovingly dismembers our world.

Washington gave nearly 50 years to national service. Until his 2nd term as president he managed to be almost above partisan politics. Though all too human in his needs for recognition, security and respect, he led selflessly and tirelessly. He was deeply conflicted about the institution of slavery, and was not able to act on his good intentions, either in his private affairs or in his government service.
