well, i did cry a bit at the end. it was made to be terribly sad, after all. understanding the 3 storyline structure went a long way to letting me just enjoy the stories. i liked the writing. i suppose i didn’t hate the book over all.

i’m enjoying the writing, but the way the author tries to reveal something shocking is clumsy. the attack in Paris was like jerky movements after a smooth ride. the misogyny is revolting along with the abuse. and I think we are supposed to adore Bear but he’s just okay.

jesus i hoped it wouldn’t get worse. as tho the murderous abusive gordon senior was not enough, now gordon junior is a budding rapist 😡

ugh jfc this woman’s shitty shitty marriage. okay what is the structure of this book?? is this 3 parallel fucking timelines or something

soooo she’s an actuary which the logical equivalent to fortune telling. what a BORING ending to a boring book.

i will say the writing is easy to read, internal monologues that they are. but allll the way at 76% we casually find out why Paula held knives to her family’s throat like it wasn’t even mentioned before and is in fact not germane to the story!?

these Cherry chapters prattle on, boring me, then the last line is something mildly interesting. which of course does not continue in the next chapter

i find myself incredibly bored with the chapters about Cherry’s childhood/teen/YA years. what’s the point of them? just tell me if she’s right about these deaths or not.
and Eve, so upset at the “injustice” of ppl assuming Dom could be violent..guess what Eve, 1 in 3 men is an abuser.

ok what is this knife to the throat memory Paula is having?? again this better pay off!

okay i’m just going to say if we DONT find out whether this kooky lady is right about all these deaths imma be SO mad! 😂

so the OVERWHELMING theme of this book of doom and disaster is: family :D

god these guys are good. when the catastrophe happens it’s never half assed, its DOOM.
