ok so i don’t actually know what this book is
about. i know it was a movie and people seemed to think the movie was dumb? Luisa (3rd storyline?) has a birthmark same as Robert from 2nd storyline so is this a multi life continuation thing?

i usually don’t like dialogue in the style of the 1800’s and earlier but i found myself enjoying the first 9% of this book. it’s one big chapter tho. so i guess each of the 6(?) stories will be a way to divide the book.

okay so i’ve been reading this book just to get thru it, idk really why i’ve continued. but it was whatever, southerner shit. but now you got convict rich gay man Jim Williams putting hexes and warnings on the voodoo lady?? the one he’s been paying pennie’s for hexes?? telling her how the numbers work??

damn these people in Savannah never sleep. i forgot about the drag queen in this story…is this non really about her? i don’t remember, but in the movie i think it was a big plot point. i guess it is, a whole chapter just on Chablis quitting her job.

well this charming depiction almost makes me want to go to Savannah.

action and sadness at the gravesite. i bet some ppl will find it difficult to track who’s voice is speaking when, with all the possession and telepathy.

okay. the writing is a little jumpy but i guess i don’t hate the style, so far. the story is interesting enough that i want to keep going. definitely a creepy traveling circus vibe.

what’s bugging me is the authors don’t know how to write a 10yr old girl. which is a problem since she’s the main character. example: she does tremendously stupid and 10yr old child things but then has an inner monologue casually wondering about land surveys and executions and alien biologies 🤨

the minstrilization of Jim is deeply uncomfortable for me, especially as Jim is the opposite action to the failure of White Fatherhood.
