Very good book, very well written. I found myself disappointed when I turned the page waiting for Handful to arrive in the North, but soon forgot as I read the author's note. How difficult it must have been to weave these 2 stories together and keep historical accuracy to such a degree. The South wasn't ready for emancipation and men (and women) weren't ready for equal rights.
