Miriam Toews might be my favourite Canadian author. Her ability to capture the feeling of helplessly watching the people you love the most drown in despair in beautiful and devastating.

Kinda torn. The aimal imagery is better done the more poetic the story is. Trick of the Light explores the complexities or domestic abuse, the the dragon imagery feels like it's almost getting in the way of, rather than enhancing, the story
