Catherine Brickell is on page 25 of 383 of Splitting the Difference: Gender and Myth in Ancient Greece and India (Jordan Lectures in Comparative Religion)
I'm only halfway through chapter one and I hate it. Her theses are all over the place, conclusions hackneyed, and evidence spurious.

Quick and pleasant narrative. Apparently well-researched although I wish he would go in to more detail - most chapters are just a couple pages. I do love the trope of going through a whole day in Ancient Rome by the half-hour.

Actually started this a long time ago. It's more of a reference but has been an enjoyable read.

Reading about mentors made me cranky, because I don't have one, so stopped reading. I need to just move on to a different chapter.

Even though this is a heady read, I sped through several chapters last night. Oh my feels, my insights... my critiques. Right now I am bandying about the topics of politics and art and money and individual fulfillment and civilization and cities. These essays are a piece of the puzzle, critiquing inbred political savvy of The Art World as being totally useless. I dig, though author still has misplaced hopes in Marx.

This is fab. I don't really view things from a Marxist stance, but this book answers (or at least opens dialogue) about the many questions I have about that stuffy and ubiquitous "Art World", and what it means to be and earn as an Artist with a capital A.

finished Act I.A cute play so far. Please recommend good solid theater for me to read. If I can find plays at the library, they are modernist pieces of crap, or conversely, old-fashioned puff pieces.
