It bothers me how Bryce will do something regular, and Hunt will turn it into something overtly sexual. Especially in moments that are serious, idk it makes me uncomfortable.

And if I said I could see this plot twist coming from book one, would you believe me?

I have never seen main character plot armour like the one Darrow has. It’s so funny, because it reduces the tension of the story to something almost comical because truthfully why should I be afraid, I know Darrow will survive every situation and turn it around to his benefit.

See now I’m confused. We spend the entire first book establishing your moral compass and what guides you as a revolutionary. Now you find out that your wife was pregnant when they killed her, so you want to throw away the cause she died for. Granted, it’s a tough thing to lose a child, but I feel like compromising your beliefs should have been more than a split second decision. Idk, things like this ruin a story

It’s a rare moment where a plot twist in a book actually surprises me. I’ve been duped!

I really appreciate the fact that Darrow remains clear headed during his journey. Unlike a lot of main characters in novels like this, that lose sight of the bigger picture, every one of his actions seems intentional and focused on the goal he has set for the rebellion. It’s refreshing to see.

Very noble to take on the punishment you’ve inflicted unto others, but also giving very much cult lmao.

I can’t understand why they want Darrow specifically? He doesn’t seem to have any powers? Yes he’s smart, but anyone can be smart. What makes him so special?

They’re describing the enslavement of the reds and how it’s horrible and dehumanizing. But why is their explanation sounding a little too much like the experiences of a middle class family. Is this fucking play about us?? Lmaoooo

“Imagine there was a table covered with fleas,” he explains. “The fleas would jump and jump to heights unknown. Then a man came along and upturned a glass jar over the fleas. The fleas jumped and hit the top of the jar and could go no farther. And what did I say? The girl is dead! When an author writes a character with attributes too virtuous, too kind, too loving. And she’s not the main character? And God forbid she’s the early love interest. It’s a death sentence.

Or even better twist, she becomes the main character and he dies?😛

You know when you can tell a character is about to die, so that they can serve as character development for the main character. Yea? Well, I can feel it - Eo is going to die.

This book has been on my reading list for so long, and I’m finally about to tackle it. Wish me luck :)

I had theories, but nothing could have prepared for this level of cruelty against a child. No wonder the kid wants to see the world burn, I would too.

I think that the actual themes of this story are so dark and depressing, that it’s almost a blessing that the world this takes place isn’t described with vivid descriptions. It makes the backdrop of this story grey, which is more powerful than if it had been full of life.

This is not a book you read in one sitting. Jeez, lots of dark themes are explored here.

Here’s my theory: it’s his mother, in her bid for power she abused the poor child. That’s why he killed her, and he’s afraid of being touched. Also why he was severely undernourished, despite being a prince. Lastly, I think he inflicts on Wen the same punishments he was forced to endure.

I can feel it, those scars are not from falling of trees omg. The poor boy :(

Thought I was going to be reading a cute little romance…I was in for a rude awakening.

Is this a short story? The pacing seems incredibly fast?
