Although I really like the story and concept of this book, I'm strongly disliking the main character. She is very superficial. I understand that this is a result of her feeling ugly and outcast her whole life, but EVERYTHING is based on looks, even when she starts feeling things outside the spell.

She's also impulsive and never seems to THINK beyond what she is told. It makes for a frustrating read.

This is so Howl's Moving Castle. The similarities are evident, but I'm enjoying the journey so far.

My main annoyance is the overabundant use of similes. At least this isn't as bad as the first chapter of The Monstrous Kind - I'm still not sure I'll be able to get back to that book - but we're bordering on painful at times. I don't even want to know the word count for "like" or "as" in either book. I'll cry.

This is one a story where exploring the world is part of the enjoyment, and I am enjoying the exploration. I just wonder if I'd enjoy it more if I hadn't been pulled in by the concept of a pawnshop where you can sell your regrets. I really love that idea, and although we've had a small taste of it, that's all it's been. A taste. I wanted to settle in and experience it before we went on our journey. I wanted XXXholic.

I read one chapter of this book, and I am really interested in the story, but if I have to read the word "like" or the phrase "as if" one more time, I'm going to start screaming.

This author is also an editor? If so, how in the world did she get away with these descriptions? Not every description needs to be a simile!!

I've reached chapter 40, and I feel like I might be hating this book, but not strongly enough to DNF it. Instead I'm wavering between wondering if it might be worth finishing, especially after coming so far, and wanting to put it down because I'm not enjoying the read.

I probably should stop reading this book but I'm not going to. Not sure if it's out of spite or some masochistic fascination to see what happens.

I was here for the poly and the paranormal, but so far I don't see much of either.

I'm devouring this book. The atmosphere, the breadcrumbs of details we're getting while no one wants to say anything, yet there are so many questions asked and unasked. Freaking loving this book so far.

I am LOVING this.

I am LOVING this book. Why is work a thing? I just want to sit and read. Love when a book makes me feel this way.

And now that the thing I've been dreading all along has happened, I cannot bring myself to turn another page. I have to DNF this book.

TBH I'm not sure I want to continue. This is a cute idea of a book, and I love the family dynamics between Cara, her mother, and her grandmother. They feel very real. Unfortunately, everything else feels...juvenile, surfacy, and disjointed. I get they are on a quest, but where are all these events and things coming from? It feels very wonderland right now, and I suppose I wasn't ready for that. Maybe another time.

I love Cade. I love him more than words can say, but I want to smack Valencia upside the head.

It's awesome how these two characters are running on misapprehensions, but where Cade observes and makes an assumption but seems open to reason, Valencia just assumes and then runs and keeps running. No thought or awareness to anything outside her assumptions at all. It annoys me to no end.

The beginning of this book is like one of those ladies in historical novels that are trained with only one goal in mind: land a match. They are taught to look pretty, mind their manners, and not think. In short: they are meant to be fluff with no substance. I felt this book was the same. It was entertaining, but I wanted more.

Then I hit page 100 and got what I asked for. I am looking forward to the ride ahead.

So much fun! I'm loving this even though I question the possibility of running 5 blocks in Manhattan in just over a minute. Between the distance and the people, is that really possible? Especially when injured?

I can't believe how much I'm loving this novel!! Death game is not my genre, but I'm enjoying this one a lot. I think it has to do with how funny the story is. For horror, it's at times hilarious.

And the MC's. OMG I love them so much. They are awesome.

They are also SUCH troublemakers. I kind of feel bad for the system. If the system had been human it would have had an aneurysm b/c of these two.

Still loving this story. I can't believe we are only halfway through, but at the same time I'm so glad we are only halfway through. There is SO MUCH to resolve, and it's going to take a lot to get there. I can feel it!

Between the drunk lunch and World of Wangs I can't remember when I last laughed so hard. This book is SO GOOD.

This couple is so sweet, they could make your teeth rot.

I could have done without the ex-girlfriend trope, but I was amused by how it played out. The misunderstanding on Tang Kai's side gave it a refreshing twist!

Shen Qiao is an angel, but if you cross the line he will cut you down. (He is so awesome and kicks serious ass!)

Yan Wushi is an asshole. There is no other word for him, but <spoiler>excluding that one absolutely terrible, wtf thing he did,</spoiler> I kind of love him.

Funny enough, so does Shen Qiao. lol

I wasn't supposed to go to sleep at 2am on a work night, but this was delivered to my house yesterday so how could I resist?

I regret nothing. I am loving this book, and I can't wait until work is finished today so I can read the other half.

BTW, when these two start steaming up the page, they really STEAM UP THE PAGE. /fans self

I can't get over how much I'm loving this story. Beiyuan and Wu Xi get all the <3's.

And if young Wu Xi had ever met Zhen Hun's precious little Ghost King they would have made one hell of a troublesome pair. LOL

I am devouring this book. Loving it so far.

I can't put into words how much I love this story. I needed something fun and this was the perfect choice.

Zhong Wan is SO KINKY. Please Ziyou, give him what he wants. Tie him to the bed and have your way with him. It'll be good for the both of you.
