Matt Ranlett is 33% done with Billy Budd, Sailor (Enriched Classics)

I'm 1/3rd of the way through this short story and I've got to say, "What the heck was wrong with Melville?" The language is extremely dense and chewy. The contemporary references are out of control (I'm having to look something up every 10 minutes). The entire thing seems to be crafted out of a clump of non-sequiturs. Melville is famous for his mastery of metaphor, but he is NOT the master of the short story.

Matt Ranlett is 21% done with Invisible Man

Up to chapter 35 (of 168) and WOW is the writing impressive. I'm really impressed - this is just head and shoulders above what I normally read. I'm going to have to step up my literary picks!

Did I mention that the Audible narration by Joe Morton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Morton) really makes this come alive?
