This will be the last Bruno book for me. It could be because it’s written by an English author, but I can’t detect an ounce of French atmosphere. It’s just an English story set in France with the nouns all changed. And I don’t understand why ‘pompieres’ is italicised to describe the firemen! It’s flat, boring, and misogynistic

A bit outdated so far with references to pretty women even female detectives with awesome skills are being relegated down to their looks. It’s so boring. But I’ll persevere and I doubt I’ll read any others

Amazing that this essay was written 90 years ago. So ahead of her time. In this essay Woolf muses on how women need 500 a year and a room of her own plus the time to write just as men do. Men are educated and can earn money of their own - women are not university educated, can’t earn their own money and don’t have time to write when they are too busy running households and raising children.

Thoroughly enjoyed it especially the ending. Elizabeth giving the diamonds with millions of dollars to the centre for dementia. The man who died twice is the husband of the woman who works at the centre and who finds the money in their bank account.
