very accessible, insightful and overall a great read <3

looking for an engaging story, or a point, or something i could care about in between all the shock content but haven't found it so far

Bauman is like a tradcath who refuses to talk about God. i hate this book a lot.

maybe it is the audiobook format, maybe it is the humour, maybe it is just not really my type of story but this book truly annoys me and i can't put my finger on what it is that annoys me so much

i'm at page 34, getting here took me hours, and i hated absolutely every second of these hours

152 pages later my opinion remains the same - Victor Hugo was a genius but an editor would not have been an unnecessary luxury. This book did not need to be so ridiculously long!

I'm reading this for a book club, not sure if I would have picked it up spontaneously (probably not). So far it is much more readable (and funny!) than I expected, but it also feels unnecessarily repetitive, detailed and slow. If this would have been written in 2024 an editor would have erased around 60% of the paragraphs/chapters.

Re-reading one of my teen favourites, but I just learnt that the author was married to a proud pedophile, letting him rape their daughter and providing him other kids, and she herself sexually, physically and mentally abused her children. And this is full of explicit scenes of (often non-consensual) sex involving very young characters. It makes me so uncomfortable, not sure if I'll finish this. Don't recommend.
