Another Murakami novel that randomly includes people who drink Cutty Sark. I wonder if Murakami ever considered that his characters might like a different brand instead, perhaps Suntory.

First impressions: Great to finally be reading some well-written non-fiction again 😊

This book is triggering not only for trauma survivors (I assume) but also for people who know at least a bit about how science is done. You cannot put 8 people into a brain scanner without a control group to compare them with, let them listen to trauma stories and then draw generalisable conclusions about PTSD based on what you see “lighting up”. Come on, man. I like your thinking but not your “science”.

This book is so good that I’m highlighting every other sentence in some chapters. It’s also quite funny and very hands-on, not just a boring user research textbook. I’d recommend it to all my UX friends here, even if you’re already seasoned research practitioners.

I expected a potentially hard-to-read essay. What I got instead is part-poetry, part argumentation, part novel. And I like it very much.
