It’s written in a way that is very aware of dominant power.

Much more of an academic/graduate text than what I was expecting. However, I do not think I’m the target audience. For the target audience, this is perfectly written, if confusingly marketed.

Plus as a former foster kid, to see such rage and hate for this world that turns its eyes from the powerless, it is a balm to the soul.

Modern fantasy, romantasy novels consistently have a god awful second book to a trilogy or third book in a series. Often bc the pages outpace the plot. Especially when the first book is comes out swinging so hard.

All that to say, Tigest Girma was in her mf bag with this. Jfc.

PREGNANCY JUMP SCARE

5 star read for anyone who’s loved someone that died.

This book is dragging more than I thought was possible. It is 21% over and we have not passed the first 3 hours of the morning. Every page is used as an excuse to bonk the reader over the head with something that has already been mentioned/over proven (how in love she is, how the games work, the importance of the Unnamed Sauce, etc.) This book may cause a book slump because I want to love it but it D R A G S.

Ok, this girl just can't love healthily. It's like these guys are her lifeline. That lifeline is ok for a while, but she needs to live and breathe on her own.

I'm falling in love with Lachlan slowly. He's that literally "boy next door" that you don't find yourself liking until one day you can't get the way he smiles out of your head. Max... Is passion, and fire. But I think the slow love is what I'm rooting for.

I'm so in love with Max omfg. Books give me unrealistic expectations and this one is the king.

I literally can't with this book. As a victim of sexual assault, it's not something you magically get over with that one special touch.
