Mirroring a lot of Brave New World's ideas - instant gratification should make everyone happy. Individualism and intellectualness should be stamped out. Anything that reminds one of something sad, upsetting, offensive should be discarded and forgotten.

"One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them. Finding bad reasons for what one believes for other bad reasons? That's philosophy."

Okay, kinda loving the end where everything is laid out bare. The plot in this is very weak, however, there is indeed a very amazingly progressive view of capitalism, religion, human happiness, and more wound up in the pages of this book.

I love the concept explored in this book that there really isn't a "true self" and no matter how well you know a person, there's still a side of them you don't know.

After starting the TV show, I wanted to read the books. (Thank goodness the folks in charge of casting the show favor DIVERSITY Book is so full of white people it's embarrassing.) I finished the show a few days ago and it was an excellent and beautiful story from start to finish. I'm interested in seeing what made it and didn't make it from the book.

Usually can't concentrate on audiobooks, but I'm giving it a shot again while I work and it's going really well!

Newly obsessed with the musical this week, and it has me itching to research the history, so I've started the biography it's based off. Loving it so far!

Not entirely sure why I'm reading this. I kind of know all of it and it's making me angry.

My 5 year old is just not digging Inkheart at all, so I'll have to continue that with my 7 year old or on my own. We started this one last night and both of them are really into it. Me too, so far! Love the message in one of the first chapters not to dawdle in Expectations.

Enjoying this one much more than the first two. It's nice to read a book with strong female protagonists.

An *amazing* satire thusfar about American society -- written in 1884, but Sooooooooo many of the social and societal constructs still exist today. Love love loving it so far!

Reading this to the kids. Lovely little book so far. I'm hooked! I wish I knew as much German as I did in high school; I'd try reading this in the original language first.

Since the last two books I read with my kids and the current book I'm reading with them are written by female authors, I was thinking of reading them *ONLY* books by female authors this year. Does anyone have any good suggestions for children / young adult chapter books written by women?

Started reading this a few nights ago with my young boys. The chapters are a nice length for reading one a night. I'm impressed so far by how timeless it is despite its age. The oldest one is really digging it, but I'm not sure how much of that's because there's an item called a tesseract in Minecraft.

Argh. I had a long, thoughtful update typed out and goodreads ate it. The gist of it was: attempt to falsify data more, examine the paths where the answers are no instead of stopping once you have enough "yes"es to validate your hypothesis.

Gramarically well written with mostly unlikable, shallow and predictable characters. The plot doesn't have many twists or turns, and a couple characters are introduced for absolutely no reason. Still, it's an entertaining read. Viral born super powers are a fun thought experiment .

This book is just a little bit beyond my 5 year old, poor thing. Words, characters and plot points have been a struggle for him. I'll be happy when we've finished it. I'll select something a little simpler.

One of the reviews said this book was trying to be too much, but I don't think that's true so far. Plot seems to be coherent and focused. I'm interested in what happened to cause the current situation and what happens next.

Took the boys a little longer to get into this book and the chapters are longer, so it can make stopping points a little difficult (we read chapter two in one night, but had to break up chapter one into two nights). I'm excited to continue this!

Not as instantly gripping for the kids as Coraline, and also more gruesome. The older one loves is. The younger is undecided.
