DNF because I didn’t care for the style of writing.

Never really loved this book. DNF

Still mixed feelings…liking it a lot better at pg 274 than I was the first 225 pages. It was a rough start, tough life for that kid!

Excellent! Intriguing and absorbing. Not the story you grew up with as it has expanded to the region of real humanity and pathos engendered toward someone utterly deserving of our respect and caring. The best pages are yet to come!

I figured this book would flesh out the character and give him more humanity than Clemens (Twain) gave him. But this book goes far beyond that, bringing to life an entire subculture among the sl*ves that rings very, very true. I have a feeling it’s going to be deeply, deeply moving. And somewhat troubling to contemplate the history of what our forefathers engaged in and how it’s manifest today.

The level of interest and anticipation continually grows, amping up continually! It is becoming almost impossible to put down! But put it down I must for work and obligations, sadly.

Well written words, eagerly devoured!! I’ve nearly finished Part One, The Huffams, and have to force myself to stop reading lest I get too far ahead of my book group! Reading this book has become the thing I’m looking forward to most every day! Our first meeting on this book is at 11:30 today - excited to hear what the other readers think of it!

Fast moving and easily relatable. Just read a heartbreaking scene, so need a little break. Enjoying the book and looking forward to seeing how the characters move forward after the shattering events that just occurred.
