this book is so long and dense and it took me so long to actually start reading it that i have to return it to the library and check it out again because i've exhausted my renewals

There is a conversation happening in this book that I would describe as confusing, weirdly characterized, and poorly written. Sigh

Ok the other thing I’ve flipped to specifically is Walton’s essay on Doomsday Book and it reminded me of how great that book is. I really want to reread it at some point.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m mostly flipping around rather than actually reading, but just noting this as the marker to check back on if I get back to the reading part. Marked a bunch of things as to-read. This feels like a natural companion to Among Others hahaha…

I am reading this by way of Dracula Daily, which I highly recommend as a reading experience. it is a good time. I have no idea how far I am into it (it is only May 12).

I keep on thinking I’m through the monologue variations but I am not. I’m telling ya this author could learn to “fade to black” or do an oblique recap of an interaction instead of taking us full into it once in a while. This is sadly impacting my enjoyment of the first 60% of this book -__-
