Listen, I swear to god I understand that these are young adult novels, but I know there's a way to write young adult that doesn't make it seem like grown ass adults are putting the kids in charge just because . . . idk they're the main character. And this isn't it.

This is good but I’m honestly never going to get over that she used The Shining in a scene and made a bunch of grown adults in 2013 scared of it. Like. I’ve watched that movie and I hate horror.

You know I honestly think it’s kinda brave to name a the main character of a romance novel Barbara in the year of our eldritch horror 2025.

I'm all for friends to lovers but these people are basically already dating. Like the emotional and physical intimacy between them that draws the line at kissing? I guess?? It's ridiculous.

No offense to this narrator but this is the WORST audiobook narration I've ever listened to, but I'm invested enough in the story that I want to see where it goes.

The whiplash in these wild character swings is real. I'm harmed.

The fact that I know that there is no conviction like that held by a teenager who thinks they've been wronged I'm finding Nova as a character so frickin frustrating.

These books are such a wild mix between the appallingly primitive and the high tech. They give a blood transfusion to a young child by hooking her up to a cyborg. Did anyone ask about blood types? Nope, not a single person.

Also, not for nothing, if a cyborg ripped off my underwear while we lived on thd desolate wastelands of Mars with basically no opportunity to replace them, he’d be going outside with the trash.

Also they can get women pregnant faster than any dumb human can manage it.

The world building is so hit or miss. They’re machines without the legal standing to own property or enter into marriages, but they’re paid a salary and are all conveniently wealthy bc all of their needs are taken care of and they don’t need to pay for anything.

The number of things they are simply choosing to not talk about is absolutely infuriating.

I paid actual money for this book bc my library didn’t have it and I was assured by tiktok that it was good but I am here to tell you it is not.

I was 100% all in on this book. It’s cute, it’s interesting, it’s well written, the world building is good, anonymous letters isn’t 100% my jam but okay I can get behind it. I was legit ready to buy this book (I’m reading it from the library).

And then we get to the scene that is literally just a blatant rip off of You’ve Got Mail, and it’s 96.7% less charming than it was before.

Having a lot of “this? This is the book that booktok has been raving about?” feelings.
