John Chenneville was injured in the civil war. After he recovers he learns his sister, her husband and their child were murdered and he sets off to find Dodd and kill him. Many horses, many adventures but Dodd is dead when he finally catches up with him. Months go by with snow and rain and illness

Lovely writing. Short stories, not all happy ones

I gave up on it half way . That’s unusual for me since I normally read 20 pages or all of a book.

From Nazi Germany to the elite of New York in the 1930s, we see a complicated story of three generations- the last trying to be inclusive
