I tweaked my knee this past Friday at the yard sale and it has taken till today to actually feel much better. Cold packs, freeze spray, Aspercream and Tylenol is.was used daily.
Thankfully I had this book to enjoy and take my mind away.

Just had a few pages to get through. How the ending is so different than the movie.
Leslie admires the steps Bick takes for his family and the ending...two young faces in a playpen.

Leslie struggles with the isolation of the ranch. Let alone the oppressive heat.
Leslie and Bick...him and his hierarchy system. She also likes to let the men know she has knowledge and opinions that they need to hear about politics and cattle. Bick calls it "men's business"

Than when Jett hits oil he brags about his massive wealth to Bick and states "...more money than the entire Benedict family combined!"

Ms Holden was an illustrator and art teacher who had a keen eye for nature.
Her studies of plants mostly and birds and insects are reflected in her capture of quiet beauty of the seasons. She would spend hours outside sketching and studying to ensure that her work was realistic as possible.

Leslie carries the polite, educated manners of her Virginia aristocratic family. While voicing her own opinion.
She even took care a baby's diaper as it cried continuously from being hungry while his Mom was sick.
She was scolded by Jett.

Flashing back to the three Lynnton girls and Mrs Lynnton stating " I declare" "I declare, Leslie, I sometimes think your father and I will have you on our hands as an old maid"

This is where we find Leslie's wit and independence!

Ms Ferber do you really have to repeat the same word as if it is a big big deal?
King Ranch is mentioned in the first two chapters. The Reata was directly inspired by the real-life King Ranch in South Texas, specifically mirroring its massive scale, oil strikes, and wealthy dynasty and the largest ranch in Texas.

Nearly four weeks have passed by the time John returns and everyone realizes the animals are missing and attempting to walk home.

200 miles now behind them. They run into farmer James and his wife Neil.
She thought the Old Dog was homely. She guessed him to be around 11 years old. James took care of Luath removing the quills. For safety, they were locked into the barn but thankfully Tao was able to free them to continue their journey into the mountains where Bodger is ever growing weaker.
Ahead is still another 50 miles :o

Remembering how good porcupine tasted the Young Dog tried his hand at this porcupine but to find himself with some painful quills in his cheek.

The three leave the old man and venture off after eating the rabbit the Young Dog hid.
The travel along the river and finally the Young Dog convinces them to cross. The Dam breaks and The Cat is lost down stream. He is found by a little girl Helvi and taken care of by the family. Once better The Cat left to find the boys.
The writing is very detailed about the surrounding area that they are traveling through.

On their travels it is very hard on the old dog but they at times travel 15 miles.
The young dog had caught a rabbit but they ran into an the old man with a hat tramping through the forest. He removed his hat in greeting but did not stop.
Once at his cabin a chipmunk emerged and scampered up to his shoulder. This made me smile. He shared his stew with all of them.

Then I fell asleep 💤lol

The old dog has this urge to go home to his master. Along with him is the Lab and cat.
This begins the journey where they encounter a Cub and Mama bear. The old dog encounters injuries and is physically a mess. Luckily they run into a tribe of Ojibway to take care of the old dog and cat. The young dog overseas what is happening.

Start out with how Longridge becomes the owner of three nine months ago. The serene surroundings did not take long for them to adjust and Mrs Oaks to win over with a few morsels.

This editions has some remarkable detailed sketches in it.

Seems playing cards has better chances of fate then these characters do....I am done...

During chapter 6 they are prisoners. The Kid and Toadvine working cleaning.
Chapter 7 brings two men named John Jackson. One of each color. Both are the same except for one white one black. The purpose? Only McCarthy knows.

It still does not flow well for me while reading. I do not know it is will ever be of interest.

The Kid somehow survives the Comanches. He gets away and runs into Sproule who is injured. In their travels they seem to be following the Comanches and their devastation. As Sproule gets worse he tells The Kid to save himself. Sproule passes and The Kid is captured by Mexicans.

The desert is harsh even during the night.
The Kid is with the Captain's team and as things happen just ten days in The Kid acquires Earl's horse and rifle.

Wish the Kid would have stayed a bit longer with the Old Man than going to Bexar.

Into chapter 3 and the Kid is interviewing with Captain White about joining.

Nothing remarkable happening. Just getting through the very basic description of the Kids first 14 years. Seems to enjoy violence and being part of crimes. He seems to like the Judge and pairs up with him.

Comparison of Maru and Moleka and how they love and hate in their own kingdoms.

Margaret (the 2nd) is proud of her identity as a Masarwa (Bushman). Seems a peaceful person and very independent.
Her introduction to a villager Moleka seems to have a two-fold feeling between them.

Maru and his three life long friends respect Maru as a king in their village but they think he has made a terrible mistake in his choice of wife. Who Maru can be quite cruel and not kind at all too.
Starts out with the story of Margaret as a baby and in the arms of her mother who has passed. She is raised by a missionary's wife and becomes a teacher where there is prejudice.

Bush people are looked upon rather low in that part of the world and during that time.
A woman and child are found and because of status they have the missionary help.

NTLTRC is reading this over the next quarter.
I plan to start in May if not before.

Their first meeting for making money is blown when Tuppence gives her name as Jane Finn.

Tuppence's second meeting is to search for the real Ms Finn (maybe survived) and find the Secret Treaty (government failure) she possibly was given when the ship was sinking.

Mr Carter hires them but beware of agent "Mr Brown"

Starts out with the sinking of ocean liner Lusitania.
Tommy and Tuppence are childhood friends. Tommy was in the war and Tuppence volunteered. Now they meet up and Tuppence devises a plan to make money doing anything.

Tommy and Tuppence are quite young. Not in far enough to have an opinion yet.

The third person narrative threw me off a bit, different, but easy to get into.
I really like Vincent. His mind....
