In my Goodreads recommendations is a book I wrote.

Well, I guess I can be pretty confident I'll like it!

So all of yesterday and the day before, top of my updates feed were three blog posts dating from Christmas 2014. Now I have a post made 34 minutes ago that dates from September 2015.

Clearly, I have unlocked the secrets of time travel. Any ideas how to best misuse this power?

There has been so much tea consumed in this book that I finally gave up and got up to make myself a pot.

Also, it may not have been the best idea to read a murder set in a nurses home while sick.

When you switch from writing self-help to murder mysteries ...

Look, my characters clearly brought this on themselves.

I left my celphone at school yesterday. This would not be a bad thing, except that I just realised that Hard Out Here for a Bitch, my get out of bed alarm, will be going off repeatedly in the staffroom.

A couple of days into a murder investigation and it has only just occurred to the 'detectives' that it might be a good idea to talk to the servants.

So far detective work in this book consists of having dinners and drinking.

Things that are totally not suspicious at all: throwing an empty vial out a porthole when you spot someone looking at it.

My journey home got off to an inauspicious start -- missed the Hiroshima bus tonight. I've still got time to catch the bus tomorrow and get to the airport before my flight, but in a cruel twist of fate, the taxi company is fully booked, so I will be walking to the station in 3 degree weather (that's celsius -- don't panic). Heading to bed now, and packing my computer so I'm ready to go tomorrow.

Goodreads authors, I just discovered something cool! Apologies if you already knew this, but if you go to your author dashboard and look at your books, there is a little link that says 'stats.' Click it, and you get a graph! Admittedly, the graph looks like it was drawn in MS Paint, but still cool!

Got to mydifficult class only to discover someone had written 'government of the people, by the people, for the people' on the blackboard. My initial thought was some kind of protest against the exams starting tomorrow.

Just finished The Chunky Method by Allie Pleiter. It's very similar to Rachel Aaron's advice with the added bonus that it is good for people who work in short bursts as well as Aaron's longer bursts.

Another really good book on how to research, with really helpful examples taken from the authors' works. I'm having second thoughts about recommending this, because I'm starting to suspect that this writing book was put together with the ulterior motive of ministry. Every single one of the four craft books has referenced the author's faith.

I was hesitant about recommending this because I have encountered a few formatting issues while reading this, but a new version came out, I automatically updated and it is brilliant!

So far I've finished 'A Field Guide to Genres in Fiction' which was good, but did not wow me. The author started by getting defensive about romance, then turned around and gave some uncomfortably gendered advice that would create the exact sexist readings she complained about. I was pretty critical of everything she wrote after that, so can't comment on the rest of her advice.

Japan is doing something right with regards to reading. Got to my first class of the day early to find that 8 out of 25 students were sitting at their desks, reading. Not only that, but every classroom at my school has a newspaper and it is not uncommon to see the students reading it during their breaks.

I have a friend who says 'I am 100% done with today,' meaning that she is fed up and ready for today to be over. So whenever I see someone update that they are 51% done with a book on Goodreads I have to remind myself that doesn't mean they are sick of it.

McKenna chuckled. "That must hurt hell out of you, Jeff," he said. "A nice classy murder like this, and nobody to pay you to work on it."

"It does," Rand admitted. "I feel like an undertaker watching a man being swallowed by a shark."
