Oh good god. Up to c. page 80 I thought this was a truly lucid and smart book. I liked Alex and the Tracimbrod backstory. Then around page 90 things got really pretentious. It was like reading a teenager’s shit prose. Around page 100 I started rolling my eyes and skimming paragraphs. The novelty wore off. I might have to abandon it.

I've always rolled my eyes at these popular book series and refused t'hype. On a whim, I purchased the audiobook, narrated by Stephen Fry, and I'm really quite enamoured. It's light and cute and comforting.
