DNF

DNF. Same fluid, descriptive writing. Same humid, dripping, oily bayou and its denizens. Seems a little darker and hopeless and seedier than other stories in this series. Lots of foreboding. I started asking myself, “Do I really need to be immersed in this reality right now?” Maybe I’ll return when/if the world (meta and micro) is quieter and easier.

DNF. Too dark and sadistic for me.

Somehow I’d forgotten how rich Kingsolver’s writing is. Such an amazing blend of artistry, poetry, humor, wisdom, politics, environmental issues, family, respect for the miracle of and the mystery of life in Earth.

I’m rereading this after 30 years or so. It’s an amazingly metaphorically thick book. Whew.

I usually devour Ann Patchett's writing. This book hasn't caught me yet at pg 75. I'm not giving up yet, but I am being distracted by other books.
