It has been SO many years since I read this. I remember my old paperbacks were illustrated and I'm so disappointed that the ebooks don't include the illustrations.

Had to stop reading this at work because I could not manage reading about the actual plane crash without crying. I know the whole point of the book was that it already happened, but I also didn't want it to happen

This book was soooo slow to get started but now I love it. I still like the present day stuff better but I like that the flashbacks let you get to know the characters more.

This is so not my usual sort of book but I was really compelled by the summary. It kind of took me a while just to get through the first chapter and tbh it improved once it got to the post-crash bit.

this book has taken me so long to finish for various reasons but it was really really good. I'd not go back to it for ages and yet when i did go back to it it was back into the action straight away and really drew me in.

holy shit the end of this goddamn chapter. thank fuck matthias. was genuinely what the fuck at the cliffhanger of the last chapter.

Inej remains my fave, I loved Kaz's backstory, and Nina and Matthias have improved. Also occasionally this book has some suddenly gruesome moments but they are far enough apart that i forget about them and then I'm all omg when it occurs again.

because i have a paperback copy i obviously skipped ahead and read stuff much further on and ended up reading a bunch of massive spoilers lmao. it's kind of interesting to see how this stuff is hinted throughout but you don't actually realise it until you know the spoilers.

the dockyard fight scene was pretty damn cool tbh.

Why is everyone 17? Matthias has just been introduced and I assume he is also around 17. Everyone seems so young compared to other books I've read recently.

Also I liked Nina at first but holy shit I absolutely cannot do with Nina being all ooh matthias for pages, and then some guilt and drama about Matthias being the enemy. Probably doesnt help that I feel like I'm midway through their story.

I've heard a lot of good things about this series. Was a bit thrown because I've been reading only sci-fi for a while and suddenly this is very fantasy. I like Inej, Kaz reminds me of Locke Lamora with his masterminding (and also a little bit of Elim Rawne).

feels bad but this book picked up once the character death had happened, think it felt slow because the plot hadn't actually started. I loved the funeral chapter even though it hurt big :(

gotta say this book is definitely slower than the others, bot really feeling that connection to the characters. I do like the stuff about the fleet and how it works and the community and such though.

the epilogue chapter is so good!!

yesss am so glad about recent plot stuff in this book. also, owl continues to be my favourite character.

I like that even though we are only just discovering Pepper's story, Sidra has already been told it. So when Blue explains his backstory it's a discovery for us but not for Sidra.

Loved the first book so I absolutely had to get this one. So far it seems more plotty than the first one and a bit darker. I'm really intrigued by Pepper's backstory chapters. Fingers crossed nothing bad happens to Sidra!!! (I have hope that with this book, unlike others I've read, I wont look back on this status and be like "ah, what an idiot thinking it will be happy")

tbh this was a good end. thought it dragged in bits (the battle of armengar went on a bit long) but overall good. still want to know wtf happened with baru and laurie after they got separated from martin and then in the end they just appear out of nowhere with no explanation. also what was up with arutha when he was imposing curfews etc at the beginning. was he genuinely losing the plot or was it an act.

when will briana get to fight. one thing that's a bit :/ about this series is that the women generally don't do a whole lot??? briana is this apparently tough lady but has generally just spent time being all ooh martin~

really liking getting back into this series. I know this is the last book in this part of the series so I might move onto the other books.

feels weird branching out from gaunt's ghosts tbh but i'm looking forward to reading this one.

Currently on Theatre of Shadows, finished Bubba Moon. I almost miss these characters/this series but I also don't have the energy to read the new book probably :/ i'm not sure I can do a full book of DL's humour
