John Vandike is on page 98 of 532 of The New Cambridge Modern History, Volume 1: The Renaissance, 1493-1520
Thus far this is one of those excellent examples of the superiority of the crisp, understandable, academic writing of the early 20th century where the focus was on engaging both a popular and academic audience. The text flows well, is thoroughly footnoted, and generally free of the jargon-filled works from academic presses today.

John Vandike is on page 250 of 1344 of Hitler: A Life
A different approach to Hitler, more aggressively critical from the beginning; which, given the way that we all know things end, is probably fair. At 250 pages (about 1/4 of the way through) the author is just getting towards the creation of the Nazi state.

John Vandike is on page 302 of 712 of A Campaign of Giants—The Battle for Petersburg, Vol. 1: From the Crossing of the James to the Crater
Thus far, a stand out volume on the denouement campaign of the Civil War. Gordon Rhea left us 'On to Petersburg', Greene appears to be preparing to carry us to the end. I look forward to the rest of the current volume and, with the quality of writing here, the next two volumes.
